Smart Glass Bathroom Pasadena — Dual-Sink Privacy on Demand
Project Overview
In 2025, we installed smart glass bathroom Pasadena for a townhouse owner whose window framed mature trees and a nearby lake. The window sat directly above a dual-sink vanity — beautiful by day, exposed during morning and evening routines. We applied 50 sqft of PDLC switchable smart glass film to the existing glazing, wired to a wall switch so privacy toggles on with a single tap.
The Challenge
The window was one of the best features of the bathroom: natural light, lake-and-tree views, no visible neighbors during daytime. But facing a dual-sink vanity meant the homeowner had no practical privacy at the times they actually needed it. Frosted film or blinds would have killed the view permanently, and replacing the glass would have meant construction around finished cabinetry, tile, and plumbing the homeowner didn’t want disturbed.
- Keep the view and the daylight all day, but get full privacy on demand
- No construction near the sinks, backsplash, tile, or plumbing
- A control any guest can figure out — no app, no pairing, no learning curve
The Solution
We retrofitted PDLC switchable smart glass film directly onto the existing window glazing. The PDLC technology is optically transparent in the clear state, so daylight and view stay unchanged. Flip the wall switch and the glass turns to an opaque frosted state in a fraction of a second, blocking sightlines while still letting ambient light through. The electrical feed was routed discreetly to keep the modern bathroom aesthetic clean, and the switch sits where the homeowner already reaches for the lights.

Watch how smoothly the window switches modes, demonstrating the comfort, ease, and privacy it now brings to the space.

The Outcome
Day-to-day the window reads like any other — framing trees, water, and sky. During morning and evening routines the homeowner flips the switch and the glass turns private instantly. The homeowner has told us the upgrade resolved their one complaint about an otherwise perfect bathroom, and a family member who saw the install asked for the same treatment in their own home. We documented a comparable bathroom retrofit in our Hidden Hills master suite project.
