Smart Glass Bathroom Hidden Hills — Luxury Master Suite Retrofit

Project Overview

A 2025 luxury residential install in Hidden Hills, CA: 185 square feet of PDLC switchable smart glass bathroom Hidden Hills retrofit on a master suite. We applied PDLC switchable smart film to the existing glazing so the homeowner could toggle clear-to-frosted privacy on demand — no panes removed, no construction disruption to a finished high-end space.

The Problem

A master-suite bathroom in a luxury Hidden Hills home faces a familiar tension: oversized glass for daylight and architectural feel versus the need for total privacy at the shower, vanity, and water closet. Permanent frosting kills the look. Drapes and shades feel out of place in a high-design space. The homeowner needed something instant, reversible, and visually invisible when off.

  • Privacy on demand across the bathroom, without obscuring daylight when it’s not needed
  • Zero construction disruption — no removing or replacing the existing architectural glass
  • A single control any houseguest can use without pulling out a phone or learning an app
Switchable smart glass master bathroom in Hidden Hills CA — 185 sqft PDLC retrofit by Smart View

The Solution

We installed 185 sqft of PDLC switchable smart glass — film applied to the existing glazing — wired to a single wall switch. PDLC (polymer-dispersed liquid crystal) film translates a low-voltage signal into instant clear-to-frosted privacy. Flip the switch, the bathroom goes private; flip it back, the room reads as open daylight again. The original architectural glass stayed in place; only the surface treatment changed.

For background on the underlying technology, see polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) smart glass on Wikipedia. The same product family powers our PDLC smart film line for residential and commercial work.

The Outcome

The bathroom now reads as an open, light-filled volume by default, and snaps to private at the wall switch the moment the homeowner walks in. The client described the transition as fast and the system as invisible when off — no shading delay, no warm-up, no visible privacy hardware competing with the architecture. The clean, modern feel of the master suite stayed intact.

Similar wall-switch logic powered our Smart Glass Windows Hollywood Hills residential install in the same hillside corridor.
