In 2024, we installed smart glass surgery Beverly Hills for Dr. Desai‘s plastic surgery practice inside the Clock Tower building on Rodeo Drive. The clinic leans on expansive windows and interior glass for an open, light-filled feel that matches the neighborhood. Dr. Desai wanted instant patient privacy without giving up any of that openness. We installed 200 sqft of PDLC switchable smart glass across interior doors and glass surfaces, tied to a Lutron smart-switch system that matches the rest of the clinic’s lighting controls.

The Challenge

A plastic surgery practice in a high-visibility building has a harder privacy problem than most medical offices. Patients — some of them recognizable — need discretion from the moment they enter the consult or treatment area, but the clinic’s architecture was deliberately built around transparency, natural light, and glass. Blinds or etched film would have dropped the brand tone of the space. The solution had to be invisible when not in use and absolute when it was.

The Solution

We installed PDLC switchable smart glass across the clinic’s interior doors and glass panels — roughly 200 square feet in total. In the clear state the glass is optically transparent; powered off, it becomes an opaque frosted state that blocks sightlines while still letting ambient light through. Each zone can be switched independently, and the entire circuit was integrated with the clinic’s Lutron smart-switch infrastructure so staff control privacy from the same keypads they already use for lighting.

The Outcome

Day-to-day, the clinic reads the way it was designed — open, bright, on Rodeo Drive. When a consult room or treatment area needs to close off, a single Lutron tap frosts the relevant glass without a visible control or a visual break in the design. Dr. Desai has since shared his feedback on camera — his own account of the result, rather than ours. The project set a reference point for us on medical installations at this price point and finish level.
