Smart Glass Storefront Reseda — Project Overview
In 2024 a retail shop in Reseda asked Smart View to solve three problems on their ground-floor storefront at once: too much afternoon heat, too much glare on their window displays, and zero privacy during one-on-one customer consultations. We retrofitted ~60 sqft of switchable PDLC smart glass film onto the existing storefront windows and wired the install to a mobile app. The result is a smart glass storefront Reseda shop owners can shift from clear to frosted straight from a phone — no blinds, no shades, no visible controls on the wall.
The Problem
Retail storefront windows have to do two jobs that conflict. They need to look open and inviting to passersby during business hours, and they need to protect the people and products inside — from sun, from glare, and sometimes from view. Static solutions (blinds, roller shades, permanent frosted film) kill the storefront’s curb appeal. The owner needed something that could switch on demand.

The Solution
Smart View handled the full scope in-house. We measured the storefront, fabricated the PDLC smart glass film at our Canoga Park facility, and applied it directly to the existing glass in a dust-free install. The Outcome
During business hours the storefront reads as clean, transparent glass — passersby see the shop, displays get full natural light, the curb appeal the space was designed for stays intact. When the owner needs privacy for a one-on-one consultation, or wants to cut peak afternoon heat and glare, one tap on the phone frosts every window at once. At closing, the same tap delivers overnight visual privacy without ever installing a blind or roller shade. The owner reported noticeably cooler interior, eliminated glare across the display area, and on-demand privacy that didn’t cost them their open storefront feel.
