Project Overview
In 2025, we partnered with KNR Sliding Doors on a renovation at a Santa Barbara wellness practice, integrating ~120 sqft of switchable PDLC smart glass film into floor-to-ceiling glass partition dividers. KNR fabricated and installed the black-framed sliding partition doors that separate each treatment space; Smart View built switchable smart glass room dividers Santa Barbara into those panels, so the dividers transition from crystal-clear to fully opaque at the press of a remote.
The Challenge
The practice’s renovated office was designed around an open architectural concept: floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors in bold black metal frames separating each treatment room. Beautiful on a tour, but impossible to use as-is for client treatments that demand discretion. The owner wanted to keep the open, airy feel during the day and deliver total privacy the moment a client was in-session.

The Solution
KNR Sliding Doors handled the architectural glass system: floor-to-ceiling sliding partition doors in matte-black metal framing, sized precisely to each treatment room. Smart View built switchable PDLC smart glass film into those panels so the privacy layer lives inside the glass, not on the surface. The result is a permanent, maintenance-free install with the clean look the architect designed, plus on-demand privacy with zero moving parts beyond the door itself.
Our team and KNR’s team coordinated on panel sizing, electrical routing into the sliding frame, and final calibration so the switchable layer performs identically across every door. The smart glass integration was handled by our smart glass installation Los Angeles team and Canoga Park warehouse.
The Outcome
On a typical workday the partition doors read as fully transparent glass, keeping the clean architectural feel and the natural light pouring in from both sides. The instant a treatment begins, one remote press turns the dividers fully opaque. The client runs back-to-back sessions without pulling blinds, rearranging furniture, or moving anyone to a different room.
