Smart Glass Living Room in Lakewood — One-Touch Privacy on Demand
Smart Glass Living Room Lakewood — Project Overview
In 2024, we completed a smart glass living room Lakewood installation for a private homeowner whose front-facing glass panels flooded the space with daylight but left it exposed to the street after dark. We applied PDLC switchable smart glass film to the existing panels, so a single remote now shifts the glass from clear to frosted on demand. No panels were replaced and no construction was required — the upgrade went onto the glass already in place.
The Problem
The living room sat behind large glass panels at the front of the home. During the day they were an asset, but after dark they turned into open windows onto the street. Conventional blinds or drapes would have solved the privacy issue, but they’d have hidden the clean glass lines the owner wanted to keep.
- Privacy after dark without giving up daytime light and openness
- Zero structural change — work onto the existing glass, not a glass replacement
- A control simple enough to use from the couch, every day
The Solution
We integrated PDLC switchable smart glass film onto the existing front panels — the same privacy-on-demand approach behind our smart film installations throughout Los Angeles. The film keeps the glass frosted when power is off and turns it clear at the touch of a button. Our local crew prepped the panels, applied the film, wired the low-voltage transformer, and tested switching across the full run in a single visit, with minimal disruption to the home.
Install specs:
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Square footage | 55 sqft |
| Scope | Front living-room glass panels |
| Product | PDLC switchable smart glass (film applied to existing glazing) |
| Control | Handheld remote |
| Completion | 2024 |
The Outcome
The homeowner keeps the panels clear through the day for natural light, then switches them to frosted at night for full privacy from the street — no blinds, no hardware on the glass. They described living with it as effortless, whether hosting guests or relaxing with family. It’s the same flexibility we delivered on our Manhattan Beach living room and front-window project, adapted to this Lakewood home.
