Smart Glass Doors Woodland Hills — Front Door & Kitchen Privacy on Demand

Project Overview

In Woodland Hills, we installed smart glass doors Woodland Hills upgrades on a homeowner’s front door and kitchen door. The original wooden doors had glass panels — beautiful for natural light, exposed for sightlines from the street and across the household interior. We integrated PDLC switchable smart glass film into both door panels, so the homeowner can keep the glass clear during the day and frost it instantly for privacy when needed.

The Problem

The doors served the home’s design well — natural light flowed in, the entry felt open, the kitchen connected visually to adjacent spaces. But the same transparency that worked during the day became a problem in the evening: visible from the street at the front, and visible across the household interior from the kitchen.

  • Privacy on demand without losing the daytime light or the entry’s open feel
  • Zero replacement of the wooden doors — keep the existing frames and trim
  • A control simple enough to use on the way through the door

The Solution

Our team integrated PDLC switchable smart glass film into the existing glass panels on both the front door and kitchen door. In the clear state the film is optically transparent, so the doors look exactly as they did before. Switch the film on and the panels turn to a frosted state in under a second, blocking sightlines while still letting ambient light through. Smart glass doors Woodland Hills installs like this require careful frame adjustment and electrical integration to keep the original door aesthetic intact — both handled by our smart glass installation Los Angeles team in our Canoga Park warehouse.

We routed the electrical feed discreetly so nothing about the doors’ modern character changed. Both doors switch independently, controlled where the homeowner already reaches for light switches.

The Outcome

Both doors now switch from clear to frosted instantly. The homeowner reports keeping the glass clear during the day for natural light, then a single flick at the entry frosts the front door for privacy in the evening. The kitchen door does the same when the homeowner wants the kitchen to feel separate from the rest of the household. The setup fit into the homeowner’s daily routine without changing how either door looks. We documented a similar smart-glass install in our Newport Beach executive office project for a different scope.
