Smart Glass Closets Woodland Hills - A Showroom Install for Inspired Closets

Project Overview

Most of our installs hide in private homes and offices. This one was built to be looked at. SmartView partnered with Inspired Closets on a smart glass closets Woodland Hills showroom feature — a working display piece that lets walk-in customers tap a switch and watch a high-end closet front transition from clear to fully frosted in real time. It’s the kind of demo that sells itself, and it gave the Inspired Closets team something almost no other closet showroom in the area can offer: switchable privacy as a live, hands-on option.

About Inspired Closets and the Showroom

Inspired Closets designs and builds custom closets, pantries, garages, and home organization systems for clients across Southern California. Their Woodland Hills showroom is where homeowners go to walk through finished room examples, touch the materials, open the drawers, and see how a system would look in their own space. The team wanted one of those displays to do something the others couldn’t — show a premium feature most homeowners have never seen on a closet before.

By installing smart glass, we provided a dynamic solution that adapts instantly. The glass remains clear to maximize brightness and can be switched to opaque for complete privacy during use.

The final result is a sleek, modern bathroom that feels open, bright, and luxurious while maintaining full privacy control.

The Idea Behind the Display

Closet doors are usually one of two things: opaque (mirror, wood, panel) or fully transparent (clear glass). Both have trade-offs. Opaque doors hide everything, including the displays, lighting, and finishes that high-end closets are designed to show off. Clear glass shows the contents, which is great until your guest is standing in your bedroom looking at your wardrobe. Smart glass closets Woodland Hills clients are now asking about by name solve the trade-off — show the closet when you want to show it, hide it when you don’t.

The Inspired Closets team wanted that conversation to happen in the showroom, not on a brochure. So we built a working closet front, wired to a wall switch, that does exactly what a homeowner’s installed unit would do at home.

How Smart Glass Closets Actually Work

The technology is called PDLC — polymer dispersed liquid crystal — and it’s the same family of switchable glass used in luxury bathrooms, conference rooms, and storefronts. You can read the overview of smart glass for the technical detail. The short version: with power on, the glass is clear and you see the closet’s interior lighting, hardware, and contents. With power off, the glass diffuses light and the entire closet front goes opaque. Switching is instant. There are no moving parts.

For a closet, that means you get the showpiece quality of glass-fronted display cabinetry whenever you want it, and a clean, calm panel when you don’t.

What We Built for the Showroom Floor

For this smart glass closets Woodland Hills install, SmartView delivered:

  • A full-height switchable glass closet front sized for the Inspired Closets display frame
  • Integrated wall switch positioned where customers can reach it and trigger the demo themselves
  • Internal LED layout matched to the glass so the lighting reads cleanly through the clear state
  • UV-rejecting layer to protect the showroom’s wood finishes and fabric examples from sun fade
  • A trim and reveal detail that matches the rest of the Inspired Closets cabinetry

Client Feedback

The Inspired Closets team told us the response from clients has been better than they expected. The display gets pointed out on nearly every walkthrough, and it has opened up conversations about smart glass on dressing rooms, walk-ins, and reach-in closets that simply weren’t happening before. Their summary: it’s a small piece of the showroom, but it’s doing real work every time someone visits. The install came in clean, on schedule, and the operation has been completely trouble-free since day one.
