In 2025, we installed a smart glass front door Beverly Hills retrofit for the owners of a new modern home — a full-height entry door with large glass panels at the heart of the property’s luxury design. The homeowner wanted to keep the impact of the front elevation intact while having private entry on demand. We applied 65 sqft of PDLC switchable smart glass film directly onto the existing door glazing, wired to a wall switch just inside the foyer.
The Challenge
A front door in a modern Beverly Hills home is usually the highest-impact piece of glass on the property. Blinds, frosted film, or decorative vinyl would have killed the entry’s openness. Replacing the glass outright would have meant pulling apart a brand-new custom door. What the owners wanted was invisible privacy — clear when guests arrive, private the moment they’re inside.

The Solution
We applied PDLC switchable smart glass film directly to the existing door glazing. Powered on, the film is optically clear — the door looks and performs exactly the way the architect specified. Flip the wall switch and the glass turns opaque frosted in a fraction of a second, giving the owners complete visual privacy at the entry while still letting daylight through. The switch was placed discreetly inside the foyer so it doesn’t disrupt the entry’s clean lines.
